GROC initiated a Clean Up Day in April, 2009, as part of our being stewards of the land, and in appreciation for the fairness and openness of the Monroe County Parks Department and its leaders in the efforts to program shared-use trails into the Ellison Master Plan that had just been passed. It was a tremendous success, with 42 volunteers collecting a mountain of trash and having a great time doing so. We also enjoyed coffee and treats before and a weenie roast after the work party. We even made the evening TV news!
It was such a well received event that the Parks Department has organized a Pick Up the Parks Day program on the first anniversary of our workday, to be held in multiple parks involving volunteers from several community groups.
Details of the county-wide program are at this link: http://www.monroecounty.gov/File/PickUpTheParksPacket(2).pdf .
