NEW Trails Being Built: Check out the work being done by GROC and the volunteers.
Latest Map with new trails: Phase 1

The Plans:

GROC has been establishing a relationship with Don Lyons the caretaker of this beautiful county park. Don has been building trails for multiple-use and encourages off-road cycling. In a cooperative effort-starting fall 2007 VMTBC will help him with trail maintenance, develop future trails and youth skills area similar to Dryer Rd. Park. This is a great opportunity since this park is also a destination with camping facilities. Point person on this project is Victor Gaspar.
Schedule for this project
- November trail maintenance day.
- Winter and Spring survey of future trails
- Spring clearing of trails from winter debris.
- Design and build of youth bike trail and skills area.

Sorry I've not updated in a while. Please check out the maps and note that some of Phase I and Phase II are in. Some are new within the last few weeks and need re-route/repair/design change but are do able. Matt and Casey expect to get down in the next few weeks and Victor and I tend to go down on thursday or friday mornings arriving at OCP about 8am then bang out trailwork until 10am. This allows Victor to get back to his shop. If anyone else finds these hours to be good please contact myself or Victor. We would like to put together a Sunday ride/workday again soon and will send out a notice to interested OCP trail crew persons. To get on that list again contact Victor or me. Most of the new trails are on the southside east and north of the FLT. Look for two flags at trail entrance or boulders. They are loops so go for it.

If you have never been you should go to Ontario County Park. Don Lyons, the Park Caretaker, is all about trails. The park has a great trail system and it is going to get better. GROC has been working with land managers and this new project is really exciting. On Sunday, May 4th from 9 til 11 am GROC will host a spring trailwork day at this great park. We will be clearing all the trails from winter blowdown and debris. Bring your bike, the workcrews will travel by bike to various places in the park as well as work on the new Kids Trail. New singletrack hiking and biking trails are being proposed and OCP trails are multiple use. We'll also be clearing the FLT within the park. Find out more about what is proposed and ride some of the best trails around. See you on the 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick comment regarding the awesome Ontario County Park. VMTBC members Andy August, Ted Kidd, Victor Gaspar, Kevin, Scott Likly and Rick Williams spent the first trailwork day at OCP last month clearing, grading and enhancing Don Lyons (Park Superintendent) biking trail. This is a new trail that Don has been working on the last year and it is awesome. This budding relationship between the off-road cycling group, VMTBC and Ontario County Parks will be one of the premier places for multiple-use trails. During this workday the group also spent time doing routine maintenence on the Fingar Lakes Trail and hope to work with FLT in the future regarding that great trail system. For more information on this or to get involved in what is in the planning for this partnership please contact Victor Gaspar. When you ride at OCP please stop in and say hello to Don Lyons and tell him how much you appreciate his efforts to make the park even better.
