Practical Principles of Sustainable Trail Construction![]()
This is a “hands’ on” practical and informative workshop that will utilize and employ sustainable trail design and construction techniques. A sustainable trail protects the environment, meets the needs of the user, requires little maintenance, minimizes conflict and provides a quality experience. In this workshop we will look at good and bad trail design in the field, spending the first segment with a possible redesign to an existing trail using sustainable principles. The second segment will deal with maintenance and trail use issues that arise. The 11 essential elements of sustainable trails will be the focus of this workshop. Please bring work gloves, eye protection, long pants and boots since we will be outdoors.
