WHO, WHAT, and WHY of Genesee Regional Off-Road Cyclists G.R.O.C.
|" GROC’s mission is to be an inclusive community designing, building, riding and maintaining sustainable shared-use trails."
GROC encourages mountain bikers to take part in trail maintenance and construction, participate in land manager meetings and master plans, ride with respect for the land and other trail users, and have fun!
Genesee Regional Off-Road Cyclists (GROC) is a Shared-Use Trails advocacy group in the Rochester area. We have about 195 members who are concerned with protecting natural resources while providing trail access for mountain bikers in the greater Rochester area. To accomplish our mission of leading the participation of mountain cyclists in the trail community we do trail work, educate trail users, and work with local cycling industry leaders, government agencies, and other trail user groups.
GROC is made up of dedicated volunteers, not paid professionals. We give our time because of our love for the sport and belief that we can make a difference in our community.
Some of GROC's recent accomplishments:
Pilot Programs at Monroe County Parks : Tryon Park and West Bay Park
Spring 2011 will begin an 18 month pilot program at Tryon Park and West Bay Park. Work began in September 2010 to create 7 miles of shared-use trails at West Bay Park. At the same time, work was underway at Tryon Park to remediate several trails so that they would comply with
One of GROC's accomplishments is one that is not readily seen. We have been very lucky to have a large member base and lots of members willing to volunteer time towards access for bikes. Without these volunteers, the Greater Genesee area would not have the level of mountain biking access that we presently enjoy.
Many thanks are due to everyone who has put time back in to mountain biking and trail access.
